The Clipse and The Roots on Fallon rocking out to "Popular Demand"

This song's been my joint all winter. Black Thought adds a verse in place of Cam (and its kinda better, sorry Killa)

Bonus:
Unaired set of the classic "Grindin"

Say what you will about him, and gripe all you want about the late night shake-up but I hope they dont take Jimmy off the air as the result of what's happening. He's actually one of the few people right now  on tv to consistently show love to Hip-Hop in his musical guest slot.

Jersey Shore keeps blowing up in the ratings [Jan. 8th, 2010|05:41 pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[devil_details]

The media blitz is working. MTV’s controversial series Jersey Shore posted its best ratings to date on Jan. 7. The reality show attracted over 3.2 million viewers, a series high, and was Thursday’s No. 1 cable telecast among persons 12-34. The show is up more than 200 percent versus last week’s telecast and is also up 68% percent versus its season-to-date average in the young demographic. The show, which critics contend builds on negative stereotypes and bad behavior, follows a group of people renting a beach house at the Jersey Shore.

911 Call & Funeral Plans Released [Jan. 8th, 2010|05:58 pm]

[galyuhalead]

Following her shocking and saddening passing earlier this week, the 9-1-1 tape from the discovery of heiress Casey Johnson’s death has been released by authorities.

The woman who found Miss Johnson in her guest house is recorded as saying, “She’s ice cold and her hands are turning blue. I have two other people with me and we all think she’s dead.”

Not identifying herself during the 9-1-1 message, the caller simply stated the she’s “in my guesthouse, so I need somebody right away.”

When asked if suicide was suspected, the female caller replied, “I don’t know if it’s a suicide. Very often, her medications get all screwed up. It’s probably because of that.”

Meanwhile, it has also been announced that Casey’s funeral will be held on Sunday in New Jersey, with a memorial planned to take place the following day.

Artie Lange Released From Hospital After Suicide Attempt [Jan. 8th, 2010|03:43 pm]

ohnotheydidnt

[h0llyberry2]

Here's hoping Artie Lange does as great a job in his role as recovering patient as he did playing sidekick to Howard Stern.

The King of All Media's court jester has been released from Jersey City Medical Center after undergoing surgery in the wake of a suicide attempt, the details of which have finally been confirmed by police.

"Mr. Lange was found by his mother at 9:36 a.m. on Saturday," Hoboken Police Det. Lt. Mark Dompetello told E! News. "She called 911 when she found him in a pool of blood. He was semiconscious [and] then became unconscious.

"Our medics came. Apparently he had nine self-inflicted knife wounds, and it was ruled to be an apparent attempted suicide. There's no active criminal investigation."

Lange's family has yet to remark on the funnyman's condition, standing by their comment earlier this week that the traumatic incident was "a family matter."

But Lange's other family hasn't kept as quiet on their feelings—mostly anger—on the situation.

While Stern acknowledged on yesterday morning's Sirius XM radio show that he had not spoken to Lange since the weekend attempt—which police said the 42-year-old carried out with a 13-inch kitchen knife—cohost Robin Quivers had.

"He's doing well, physically," she said.

But while the team offered nothing but support and well-wishes to their troubled colleague, they had a different set of feelings for the person and paper responsible for first leaking the morbid details.

"I'm so upset about the story," Stern said. "I was actually hoping it wouldn't come out. I thought we were out of the woods with that...I really would love to know who the scumbag is who releases that information to the press. You know, who sneakily finds something out and tells the press, 'cause this really is a private matter and something that has gotten me so distressed, so upset and so bewildered, I don't even know what to think.

"I'm angry about it, I'm sad about it, I'm just all over the place emotionally about this whole thing.

"I'm pissed off that this story got out there. I'm pissed off at the s--thead who maybe got paid 10 bucks to tip off Page Six. And honestly. I don't know what to say about this story. It's such a mind-boggling thing that's gone down, I don't even wanna in any kind of way say the wrong thing, or—I think the word is— exacerbate the situation."

Stern, who refused to read the then-unconfirmed self-stabbing report on air, said he has "always tried to maintain my loyalty to Artie," and now would be no exception, even if he was at a loss at to how, exactly, to do that.

"I don't know what to do in this situation. There's nothing to do. Artie's demons ran deeper than I ever knew.

"I certainly wish Artie well," he continued. "I'm just freaked out. The whole thing's a mess."

Though a mess with a better than expected ending.

"It's a miracle he's alive," Stern said. "It is, it's a miracle."

Rihanna Not Dating Dodger Dawg, Just Rounding Second Base [Jan. 8th, 2010|05:24 pm]

With friends like these, who needs a love interest?

Proving that a little gropefest between friends never hurt anybody—or their status as mingling singles—a rep for L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp is denying that the athlete is dating Rihanna and says that the PDA purveyors are simply having a good time.

Apparently, he has exotic vacations, plays grab ass and drapes himself over all of his platonic buds.

"I think dating might be a stretch at this point,"</a> Kemp's agent, Dave Stewart (who, despite what his statement would lead you to believe, is actually aware of the photos circulating of Rihanna and Kemp in Cabo San Lucas). told E! News.

"They are in Cabo, but past that they are just good friends, and I don't think we can label it as anything other than friendship right now. Who knows what will develop past the friendship."

Only time. But not for long. The twosome is expected to return from their getaway sometime tomorrow.

Anti-smoking activists go after Avatar [Jan. 8th, 2010|04:22 pm]

Single-issue viewers, who reduce the experience of watching a movie to the sole object of their obsession, do exactly the opposite of what critics do, or should do. But several notable critics have taken seriously the complaints of such anti-smoking activists as Stanton A. Glantz—who recently told the New York Times , about the depiction in “Avatar” of Sigourney Weaver’s character smoking, “This is like someone just put a bunch of plutonium in the water supply.” The ways in which such hysteria poses risks to our cinematic health became quickly apparent.

On Tuesday, A. O. Scott, in a Times blog post called “Movies and Vices: Made for Each Other,” links to the post about Glantz while nonetheless defending Cameron’s representation of a smoker:

As long as there have been movies, there have been scolds who condemn the movies for glamorizing vice. And the scolds have generally been right: one of the great pleasures of movie watching is that it allows us to witness and vicariously take part in all kinds of behavior we wouldn’t dream of (or would only dream of) undertaking in our daily lives.

Scott comes to the conclusion that “an on-screen smoke should remain an available pleasure, a signifier of the kind of romance only movies can deliver.” So much for realism. Rather, I’d say—starting with Scott’s title—that “Movies and X,” where X is any human activity, are “made for each other.” When I see a movie, I don’t need to have smoking confined to contexts of arrant fantasy or rank moralism; there are many people who are admirable in many ways and who also smoke, and I’d be shocked to find them, or the fullness of their characters, excluded from the screen (and surprised to learn that Scott, who has written eloquently in favor of realism in the cinema, would want them so excluded).

Brittany Murphy's husband suicidal [Jan. 8th, 2010|05:10 pm]

Brittany Murphy's husband Simon Monjack struggles daily without his wife - and has considered killing himself since her sudden death last month, according to his mother.

The Clueless star, 32, died on 20 December after suffering a cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home. She was laid to rest on Christmas Eve, but the cause of her death has been deferred pending toxicology results.

Monjack, who married the actress in 2007, is grief-stricken over his loss and often breaks down in tears, his mother Linda reveals.

She tells People.com, "Simon is exactly as you would expect someone to be who has just lost the woman he loved. Some days he wants to kill himself, and other days he seems to be coping better. He is distraught. I speak to him everyday, and he is often in tears."

Monjack's mother also opens up about her son's initial reaction to decline an autopsy on the star - revealing he didn't want his beloved wife "cut open".

Linda explains, "He didn't want the autopsy (in the beginning) for the reason that anybody wouldn't want his nearest and dearest to be cut open. He realised pretty quickly that he had to agree to it, and he's waiting for the results. He wants to know what happened."

Since Murphy's death, Monjack has formed a close bond with her mum, Sharon - and turns to her for comfort in his darkest moments.

Linda adds, "He's very strong, and he's got Sharon. They're very close, and they're keeping each other going. Simon's life has been shattered. He needs closure to be able to get on with it.

"They truly loved each other. I don't think they ever spent more than a few days apart. They were going to start a family this year."

And grieving Linda admits she will always cherish a conversation she had with Murphy and Monjack the day before her death: "Everything sounded normal and fine. It was a three-way conversation, with her laughing and talking to me in the background... She seemed in good spirits."
